At National Mini Storage, we are committed to making a meaningful difference in our communities through our Creating Space initiative. One of the partnerships we are incredibly proud of is our support for Kiwi Christmas Books, a charity dedicated to ensuring that children across Auckland have access to the magic of books. Through both financial support and the provision of much-needed storage space, we have helped Kiwi Christmas Books distribute more books than ever before.
More Time, More Books, More Impact
Our contribution has allowed Kiwi Christmas Books to spend more time directly engaging with the community. Time is a precious resource, and with our $10,000 grant, the charity has been able to extend its work throughout the year, ensuring that more books reach the hands of children who need them most. Quite simply, because of this support, more kids now have books they can call their own
A Game-Changer: The Power of Storage
Having dedicated storage space has been a game-changer. Described as “a godsend,” the spacious storage units have provided Kiwi Christmas Books with the ability to sort, organize, and distribute books more effectively. Volunteers can now work on-site, ensuring that each book is matched to the right recipient. This is crucial—getting the right book into the hands of the right child fosters a personal connection, making the gift feel truly special. For example, after receiving feedback that teenagers were often overlooked when it came to Christmas gifts, the team was able to shift focus and ensure young adults received books tailored to their interests.
Reaching a Major Milestone
With our support, Kiwi Christmas Books set out on an ambitious mission to distribute one million dollars’ worth of books—and they achieved it! Since their inception in 2019, they have distributed more than $1 million worth of books, equating to over 50,000 individual books. That’s thousands of children discovering new worlds, sparking imaginations, and growing a love for reading—especially in families facing hardship.
Books That Change Lives
We know that good books grow great kids, and we are incredibly proud to be part of this journey. Thanks to our partnership, Kiwi Christmas Books has been able to support families at what is often a stressful time of year. Their books have reached children in safe houses, refuges, hospitals, foster care, transitional housing, food banks, buddy programs, and community outreach initiatives from Invercargill to Paihia.
Beyond Christmas: Creating Lasting Change
The impact doesn’t stop with Christmas. Last year, we were thrilled to support Kiwi Christmas Books in launching “Mid-Winter Christmas,” a project that helped restock the under-funded libraries of two schools in West Auckland with hundreds of brand-new books, including award-winning titles from the New Zealand Book Awards. This initiative ensures that children have access to quality books all year round, reinforcing the importance of literacy and learning.
Creating Space
Through Creating Space, we remain dedicated to supporting impactful initiatives that change lives. We are honoured to stand alongside Kiwi Christmas Books in this kaupapa, helping to build a community of readers and ensuring that books continue to reach those who need them most.
